Emmerdale resident Lydia Hart (played by Karen Blick) has a dark past which started to be addressed in the ITV soap last year. Now, it seems she will see herself in another difficult situation as her mum Agatha (Judith Barker) is to return – but what for?

Last year, Lydia was forced to reveal her true identity to her fiancé after it looked like her past was coming back to haunt her.

Lydia handed herself in at the police station after human bones were found at the local school, which were those of her baby.

Back when she was 15, Lydia, then known as Jenny Finn, got pregnant with a boy called Craig Reed.

The fan-favourite character has had a difficult past, growing up in care when she fell pregnant.

However, things soon took a horrible turn when Lydia gave birth to her baby, explaining to Sam he was “born sleeping”.

Not knowing how to handle the aftermath of the devastating situation, she found a place for her baby in a nearby woods, which came back to the forefront last year.

She confessed Sam Dingle (James Hooton) she was previously named Jenny Finn but decided to create a new identity after a traumatic experience as a teenager.

It seems the storyline could be readdressed in the coming months as Lydia’s estranged mother Agatha will return to the village once more.

Speaking at the Emmerdale press day, Karen told Digital Spy and other press: “There’s opportunity for that, I know that. Lydia’s mother Agatha comes back on the scene.”

Agatha arrived in the Dales with some news for her daughter after the latter believed her mum had passed away.

She explained her father died after being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease and there was a strong possibility Lydia could also have the illness.

Karen added: “Lydia has still got the Huntington’s test looming, so there’s lots more avenues there for Lydia to explore.”

“I think it’s a way of understanding her behaviour. There’s a reason for all of our behaviour, and it was understanding what had gone on in Lydia’s past.

“In our own lives, if we know a friend or a family member that has suffered hardship, difficulty or traumatic time, we do tend to understand and feel them. I think it’s helped the audience connect with Lydia,” she noted.

Luckily, there are some good times on the horizon as Lydia will finally get her dream wedding with Sam next week.

Of course, it won’t be without its fair share of drama as the bride-to-be will go missing after getting into an argument with Mandy (Lisa Riley) over her hen-do.

Mandy has been insistent on organising Lydia’s hen-party with the latter not being so keen on what Mandy has in-store and it seems she will have enough of her ways.

Thankfully, Lydia returns in-time to marry the love of her life and they get their perfect day at long last.

Karen also spoke out about the comparisons between the couple and another popular duo, Zak (Steve Halliwell) and Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox), with the actress saying: ”Maybe they could have that longevity – you just don’t know, do you? The audience does like their relationship because there’s the opportunity for us to have a lot of fun, with streaking and various daftness.

“But then we also explore the heart and the truth of who these characters are and the hardships that they’ve experienced in the past. I think the audience can relate to that,” she concluded.

Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV
