In tonight’s EastEnders, Callum “Halfway” Highway (Tony Clay) hosted a flat-warming party with girlfriend Whitney (Shona McGarty).
But he was left feeling uneasy when Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) turned up, as he’s been taunting Halfway after discovering he could be gay or bisexual.
Rather than scheme though, Ben ended up getting drunk and retreated to a bedroom, in which Callum found him in tears.
Ben explained that it was the bedroom where he’d spent his first night with Paul Coker (Jonny Labey), his ex-boyfriend who was murdered in a homophobic attack.
Crying, Ben tells Halfway: “I was so lovely before I met him, I was so lonely.”
Halfway seemed caught off guard by Ben’s emotions and said: “Must’ve been hard.”
Sobbing, Ben replied: “Hard? Hard, oh yeah.
“You call it hard, living a lie, just feeling dead inside and then you’re with someone like Paul and they’re your world.

As Halfway watched on, Ben added: “I’m not gonna out you. I’ve been there before. I know what it’s like, how it feels. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”
Viewers were just as upset as Ben about Paul, with one saying: “Thank you for mentioning Paul! Miss that dude.”
Another tweeted: “Ben mentioning Paul [crying emojis] my heart is breaking for him.”
A third wrote: “Ben is breaking my heart tonight.”
While a fourth added: “We all miss Paul! It’s not just you Ben.”
EastEnders continues Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
