The Panesar family have a huge week ahead of them in EastEnders, as Suki (Balvinder Panesar) sets about bringing down evil Nish (Navin Chowdhry) with the help of secret girlfriend Eve Unwin (Heather Peace).
When Nish returns home early from a business meeting, Eve is forced to hide in the under stairs cupboard, where she overhears him arranging a dodgy deal.
Determined to get Nish out of their lives so that they can live together happily and in peace, Eve takes the information she has gathered and presents it to Suki, telling her that this is what they need to take Nish down.
With Nish reported to the police and Sukeve preparing to make their escape, things take a drastic turn when he arrives home unexpectedly and accuses son Vinny (Shiv Jalota) of being the one to report him.
The week is set to be full of high stakes drama for all the characters involved, according to actor Shiv Jalota, who revealed how excited he was to get stuck into the scenes.
‘I remember I actually emailed producer Chris Clenshaw and said “these are unreal!”. I think I was on a bit of a high because there was just so much drama within this story.
‘It was a mega excitement to have a play with the script. I was quite nervous in terms of the storytelling but I was also so excited to get started and unpick the scripts.’
At the beginning of the week, Nish scolds Vinny for messing up a deal, leaving him feeling ‘absolutely rock bottom’.
‘He desperately wants to prove to his dad that he is capable and that he is responsible to look after the business,’ Shiv explained.
‘He may not be the smartest but he’ll put the work in and do everything he can to gain his dad’s acceptance. But his dad shuns him away and he feels belittled and heartbroken.’
Nish only recently came back into Vinny’s life, having served a 20 year prison sentence for murder, and Vinny is eager to impress him, as Shiv explained.
‘Vinny doesn’t really have a lot of male figures around him – Kheerat is in prison and Jags passed away, so he’s constantly looking for his dad’s affirmation as he really wants to prove himself and to be loved.
‘We see him strive to be what he perceives his dad wants him to be and he’s willing to sacrifice everything for that.
‘Nish was in prison for a long time so he hasn’t really had that figure in his life and so I think there was part of Vinny that looked up to him in some ways.
‘However, he’s getting to know some of Nish’s traits and qualities and he starts to question his dad’s authorities as he understands his dad is not perhaps as perfect as he thought.’
While Vinny is hurt by his dad’s attitude towards him, mum Suki offers him some more comforting words, as she says a veiled goodbye amid her plans to run away with Eve.
‘Her main point here to Vinny is to stress that he’s enough as he is and to stop trying to be a person that Nish wants him to be. He’s different from his other siblings and family members so she just wants him to be his own man.
‘It’s a really beautiful moment between them. He really loves his mum and he knows they’ll always be connected, and it feels reciprocated in this moment. You get the sense here that she really has his back and that he’ll always have a sense of belonging with her.’
Towards the end of the week, things take a dramatic turn, as an ‘incident’ occurs within the Panesar home.
‘There’s an incident in the house and Vinny is unsure of the truth behind it, so he has to make a decision. Is his dad all he cracks up to be? Is his mum at risk? Vinny’s illusion that they’re a happy family perhaps isn’t true.’
