Ian (played by Adam Woodyatt) hasn’t been seen on EastEnders since he made his temporary exit earlier this year following an epic showdown with wife number five, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean). None of his family knows where he is and for some time, he hasn’t been mentioned on the BBC soap. However, recent reports have confirmed he is going to be back with a bang. With Janine (Charlie Brooks) also making a comeback in the coming weeks, could the two legends have bumped into each other off-screen and fallen in love? Perhaps they could have got married for a very different reason, with all being revealed when they first appear together on-screen.
The pair have both been on the show at the same time in the past but there have never been wedding bells between the pair, although a few scandalous dalliances.
Instead, they’ve been seen to be rivals in the past, each wanting their business empire to be better than the other.
Having spent seven years away from the Square, the serial killer of Walford could have matured and be a completely different version of the character viewers have seen in the past.
This could be a side Ian sees and falls in love with during his travels, with the pair also looking after Janine’s daughter, Scarlett Moon.
However, it’s fair to say Ian’s loved ones would be concerned to hear not only has he got a sixth wife but to discover it’s one of the most iconic residents of the Square he is married to.
When Ian left the show earlier this year, there was no official announcement on when he would be returning to the show.
The actor who plays him, Adam, 53, is currently undertaking another role in the stage production of Looking Good Dead.
Speaking about his return to the show, the soap star said to Metro.co.uk in July: “I won’t be going back until this time next year at the absolute earliest.”
However, new reports which have emerged since are suggesting it could be an earlier comeback for the icon.
An unnamed source said: “The execs at the Beeb can’t get Adam back quick enough,” stating the show has “suffered” without the character.

The Daily Star reports viewers are “switching off” and are looking forward to when the father-of-three is back in the thick of the action.
Express.co.uk has contacted a representative of the show for comment on the reports.
If he was to be brought back earlier, this could coincide with Janine’s return to the soap this autumn as she wreaks havoc on the Square.
It could be news she keeps from her fellow Walford residents until the New Year when viewers start to see her take phone calls with an unknown character.
She could be heard flirting with the other person at the end of the line and promising to see them very soon.
Jaws will hit the floor if it’s revealed the person she was speaking to was her husband Ian and the pair could become the next power couple of the Square.
With a fine tune for business and both seeing pound signs in their eyes, they could forge the new empire in the East End.
There have been hints about what Janine will get up to following the announcement she would return earlier this year.
The actress who plays the villain, Charlie, 40, shared her excitement for being back filming on the show which made her a household name.
“I am beyond excited to be slipping back into Janine’s shoes and returning to the Square,” she said in a statement released by the BBC.
“The time feels right and I can’t wait to find out what she’s been up to for the last seven years,” the actress continued.
“She is and always has been SO much fun to play. Feels a bit like coming home. It’s good to be back,” Charlie added.
Executive producer Jon Sen also added further intrigue to her return, stating Janine is a character “who is loved, and often despised, in equal measure.”
“Charlie’s portrayal of Janine over the years has created some of EastEnders’ most memorable moments and we are all really excited to see Charlie bring her incredible portrayal of Janine back again.
“We have lots of drama in store for Janine – in fact, it may be wise for some of the residents of Walford to invest in some slip-on shoes.”
Having killed two of her three husbands in the past, Janine could also have another reason for wanting to marry Ian.
Instead of love, she could be seeing pound signs as the mother of one has often married someone just for their money.
Wanting a better life for herself and her daughter, the beloved villain could orchestrate a way to kill the businessman.
The likes of his mother, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), and Sharon could warn him his sixth wife is trouble.
However, will it be too little too late when he realises what Janine’s plan was all along?
EastEnders continues Friday at 9:05pm on BBC One.
