EastEnders has been known for a dramatic storyline or two throughout the years, but the soap is also known for its shocking pregnancy plot twists too.

Daily Star takes a look at some of EastEnder's most shocking pregnancy storylines – from Sonia Fowler's unexpected labour to Cindy Beale's affair.

Sonia Fowler and Martin

Sonia Fowler's teenage pregnancy storyline is one of EastEnders most memorable moments.

After having a one night stand with Martin, the couple agreed not to talk about it, but nine months later, Sonia went into labour on Dot Cotton's sofa – unaware that she had been pregnant in the first place.

With the help of Big Mo, Sonia gave birth to baby Chloe, who was briefly adopted and renamed Bex, before they were reunited with each other.

In recent years, Bex has been played by actress Jasmine Armfield in the soap, with Bex becoming the centre of a huge storylines, including a drug addiction and a bullying storyline.

The character last appeared in the soap in 2020 after she decided to go travelling, with Sonia telling the family that she wouldn't be home for Christmas due to staying with her new boyfriend.

Cindy Beale and Simon Wicks

Cindy Beale arrived on Albert Square in 1988 and after starting a romance with Queen Vic barman Simon Wicks, she ended their relationship.

Despite Simon wanting her back, she was fed up with his womanising ways and instead, went on to marry businessman Ian Beale.

However while working together late one night in the Queen Vic, Cindy and Simon spent the night together, leading to a surprise pregnancy.

The news led to heartbreak for Ian Beale, who was overjoyed at the thought of becoming a father – until he found out that the baby was not his.

Ian was later set on taking revenge on Simon, but it was too late, as Cindy and Simon ran away from Walford after the baby was born.

Two years later however, it is revealed that Simon has abandoned Cindy and their son Steven, never to be seen again.

Cindy later returned to Walford and reunited with Ian, who wanted to bring up Steven with her.

Michelle Fowler and Dirty Den

One of EastEnder's first shocking pregnancy stories involved teenager Michelle Fowler.

After weeks of speculation, viewers were shocked to learn that the father of Michelle's baby was none other than Den Watts – garnering him the name of "Dirty Den" that would stay with the character for life.

Michelle gave birth to baby Vicky, who never knew that Den was her father, until she overheard the bombshell revelation while Sharon and Grant Mitchell were talking.

She left the square to move to the USA with her mum in 1995, before returning in 2003, where she met her dad for the first time, before leaving the square for good in 2004.

Zoe Slater and Dirty Den

Dirty Den was up to his old tricks again after his bombshell return to Albert Square in 2003 – 14 years after the character had fallen into a canal and was original presumed dead.

This time he had his eyes set on Zoe Slater, who was in a relationship with his son Dennis Rickman.

Worried that Dennis would leave her for Sharon Watts, Zoe came up with a plan to convince him that she was pregnant.

After worrying that Dennis would realise she was not pregnant, dastardly dad Dirty Den then offered to sleep with Zoe.

The plan backfired, as Dennis caught Dirty Den and Zoe in bed together – but there was more to come.

After telling Dirty Den's wife Chrissy about the fling, Zoe later discovered that she was pregnant with Den's child.

Sharon Watts and Dennis Rickman

The adopted daughter of Den and Angie Watts, Sharon, has also been involved in some huge storylines of her own throughout the years on EastEnders.

One of the storylines that gripped the nation was her relationship with adopted brother Dennis Rickman – with a bombshell revelation arriving on Christmas Day when it was discovered that she was pregnant, having always been told she could never have children.

Dennis Jr was later born in Florida after Sharon had moved away from the square, and viewers did not get a glimpse of him until the character returned to EastEnders in 2012.

During their time away from Albert Square though, Dennis Snr was tragically killed after he was stabbed on New Year's Day, following Sharon and Dennis' feud with gangster Johnny Allen.

Lola Pearce and Ben Mitchell

Teenagers Lola Pearce and Ben Mitchell had a one night stand in EastEnders, but Lola was later shocked to discover that she was pregnant.

The shock twist came when Lola refused to admit that Ben was the father of her baby, causing ramifications for other Albert Square residents.

A jealous and heartbroken Abi Branning later broke up with Jay Mitchell, after she suspected that he was the father, before the truth was eventually revealed.

Lola later gave birth to baby Lexi in a dramatic labour during celebrations for the London Olympic Games in 2012, which saw grandfather Billy Mitchell carrying the Olympic Flame through Watford.

After completing his run, Billy arrived just in time to witness the birth, and Lexi was given the middle name Billie in memory of the moment.
