Eamonn Holmes has slammed Celebrity Gogglebox for an ‘atrocious edit’ after he accused them of replacing a heartbreaking scene with a ‘funny’ one.
During one segment of the Channel 4 show, the star-studded line-up which includes Eamonn and his wife Ruth Langsford, watched BBC One’s Ambulance.
And the pair were moved to tears as a boy tried to resuscitate his dad, who was thought to have had a heart attack.
The boy can be heard breaking down as the 999 call handler tried to guide him on how to resuscitate his dad.
‘He’s asleep,’ the boy explained to the call handler. ‘I’ll try and wake him up but if he’s not awake I think he might be… I don’t want to say it.’
And after the boy managed to successfully resuscitate his father, Eamonn went on to tell his own story about taking Ruth to the hospital when she was in labour.
‘All I can say is when your contractions started – and I don’t like to blow my own trumpet but thank goodness I was the ambulance that day,’ he told his wife.
‘I got you there in the nick of time.’
Taking to social media after the instalment, Eamonn went on to accuse Studio Lambert of replacing the scene where he shared the heartbreak of losing his father with one about Ruth giving birth.
‘So following a tragedy that has forever haunted my family, I am in no mood for criticising holier than thou mouthpieces on here who haven’t gone through what we did,’ his first tweet read.
‘I had nothing but praise and emotion for the Ambulance control room TV programme. An atrocious edit.’
Eamonn addressed the number of complaints he had received following the show as he told his fans how hurt he was.
He continued: ‘In reply to a number of complaints… I am hurt beyond belief that @C4Gogglebox chose not to use me talking about my father dying from a heart attack at the side of a road and replace it with a funny story following a young lad giving his Father CPR. Idiotic and cruel edit.’
The ITV presenter then went on to tweet about the moment his father passed away.
‘How my father died was a particularly horrible experience for my mother, my younger brother and his friend who were all in the car,’ he added.
‘The resuscitation in The BBC Ambulance programme was as close as could be to my dad’s passing. Yet I am the one edited to make it look like a laugh.’
