DONALD Trump deleted a tweet calling for Dancing With The Stars viewers to vote for ex-spokesman Sean Spicer after his elimination on Monday.

Spicer, the President's former press secretary, was booted from the ABC show after a lacklustre tango in the quarter-finals.

But before the performance, his former employer had called for supporters to see him make it through to the next round.

Trump tweeted: "Vote for Sean Spicer on Dancing with the Stars.

"He is a great and very loyal guy who is working very hard. He is in the quarterfinals – all the way with Sean! #MAGA #KAG"/

This tweet was later deleted, however, after Spicer's dance was slated by judge Bruno Tonioli as an "Argentine straggle".

Spicer, dressed in a metallic pink suit, was left dejected when judge Len Goodman described his moves as "just walking about" – a comment that drew boos from the crowd.

Judges agreed with voters to send Spicer, 48, home from the contest – and their decision appeared to prompt an about-turn from Trump.

His previous tweet calling for votes for Spicer disappeared – with the former reality star later posting a more downbeat commiseration.

Trump tweeted: "A great try by @seanspicer. We are all proud of you!"

It follows a long history of Trump turning his back on former allies who fail to win.

After the 2018 midterm elections last year, Trump shamed several unsuccessful Republican candidates who "did very poorly".

Spicer had astonished viewers by getting so far with dance partner Lindsey – who had missed the last two episodes following the death of her mother-in-law.

Thanking his supporters, Spicer said: "I wish I could've done better.

"Thanks to my family for everything they did. I've loved being on this show, thank you for making me part of it."

Even the judges – who had been fiercely critical of his dancing – praised Spicer for being a "good sport".

Bruno said: "You've been so entertaining. I've been hard on you."

"It's never easy to send anyone home," said fellow judge Carrie Ann Inaba as she chose between country singer Lauren Alaina and Spicer.

Spicer was Donald Trump's first press secretary and communications director.

He gained instant notoriety following the President's inauguration after claiming the crowds at the ceremony were the largest ever.
