The BBC recently announced Jodie Whittaker would be stepping down as The Doctor in Doctor Who after filming the latest series and several special episodes. Speculation is rife as to who will be taking over the role, but Peter Capaldi, who played the Twelfth Doctor in the hit BBC sci-fi show has ruled out returning, even if there was a unique multi-Doctor storyline suggested.

Discussing the idea of making a comeback with other former Doctor Who stars, Peter said: “I wouldn’t really fancy that.

“There are so many Doctors now I’m quite happy with what I did.

“I loved my time on Doctor Who, but I think the more multi-Doctor stories you have the less effective they are, really,” he told BBC Radio’s Sunday with Steven Rainey.

It comes as Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary is around the corner – November 2023 – and many fans are hoping to have all the 13 Doctors, perhaps there will be a Fourteenth by then, on-screen together.

There is also the matter Peter is throwing a red herring into the mix and keeping quiet.

After all, David Tennant reprised his role as the Tenth Doctor for the 50th anniversary, despite previously claiming he would not return to the TARDIS.

And even if Peter decided not to return, David, Matt Smith and Jodie have said they would be up for the idea of a multi-doctor story featuring their generations.

Jodie said; “When we all get back on set, I’m inviting everyone!”

And David added: “It’s not really up to us to decide.

“But we all like hanging out together, so it would be nice to do that.”

To add to this, there has been speculation Christopher Eccleston who played the Ninth Doctor, could possibly take part too.

It came as Executive Producer Nicholas Briggs – also known as the voice of the Daleks – responded to a fan.

Asked if a possible meeting between the Ninth and Tenth Doctors was on the cards, Nicholas nothing was planned, but he wouldn’t rule it out.

“Why is it that people want Doctors to get together? ” He wondered.

“I mean we do, we all do, we want Doctors to get together. We do like Doctors to get together, don’t we?

“But it’s always very difficult to do it and we’ve done it quite a lot.

“I would never rule it out, but I don’t think it would be Chris’ number one priority – although I’m sure he’d be on board for something like that.

“And it’s not our number one priority at the moment, we want to focus on giving lots of great stories to the Ninth Doctor which are about the Ninth Doctor.

“I think meeting other Doctors, that’s a whole different thing – but I think it would be wonderful and fingers crossed maybe one day we could do it!”
