Doctor Who fans last saw David Tennant on their screens four years ago when he played the Tenth Time Lord between 2005 and 2010.
However, there is a strong possibility he could be returning to the popular sci-fi programme after the actor spoke out about the shows 60th anniversary special ‘The Day of the Doctor’.
Via Metro.co.uk, a YouTube video published by DWhoUnreleased saw David discuss a possible comeback scenario.
He said: “People ask me this as if it’s my decision when I’ll just stroll back into set on Doctor Who. ‘Right turn over! Here I am!’
“It doesn’t look like that, I suppose the opportunity has historically been there for Doctors to return to an extent. I don’t know.
‘Who knows, there’s a 60th anniversary in a few years, the question will inevitably come up,” he explained.
‘But it won’t be for me to decide. I mean it would be fun to do, Jodie [Whittaker] and Peter [Capaldi] and Matt [Smith] are all mates now, it would be wonderful to be on set with them.
“Chris [Eccleston] I don’t know as well, I’m a huge admirer of him and I’ve always enjoyed meeting him, so it would be fun if we were all on set together.
“I don’t know, not for me to say. The more I speculate the more I’ll get myself into trouble,” he concluded.
It comes after David spoke candidly about replacing Chris on Christmas Day 2005.
He said he thought he was prepared for the overnight stardom, but the shock hit him harder than expected.
“The way you imagine it’s going to be is not the way it is at all. It’s much more exposing,” he told The Times.
The actor then used a metaphor of walking into a room and feeling like everyone was looking at you and whispering.
“You feel intimidated, and you feel scared,” he added.
Nevertheless, he is one of the most popular Doctors to have come from the show.
It comes as spoilers for season 12 have been speculated.
While the new series is still a few months away from returning to tv screens, fans are eager to know what the Time Lord is going to be up to.
And it seems nostalgia will be at the heart of one dark storyline as an old nemesis makes a terrifying comeback.
It has been reported the Cybermen will come face to face with the Doctor.
Doctor Who season 12 returns to the BBC later this year.
