Dancing on Ice has seen four contestants officially withdraw from the competition in the last few weeks after coronavirus and injuries meant they could no longer take part. With the ITV show only halfway through its 10-episode plan, this has left bosses wondering how they can still keep the programme on-air for the given amount of time. It has now been confirmed the show will take a brief hiatus to allow the production team and cast to recover.
An ITV spokesperson said: “ITV has taken the decision to pause Dancing on Ice this week and there will be no live show on Sunday, February 21.
“Each week our production team and cast have delivered a fantastic show during incredibly challenging times.
“The welfare of all of those involved is important to us and we felt it prudent to take a week’s break at this juncture.
“Continuing to make the best TV for our viewers is of paramount importance to us and we look forward to resuming the competition next week, with the show back live on Sunday, February 28.”
Instead, viewers will be treated to Dancing On Ice: The Greatest Show On Ice, which will celebrate some of the most memorable moments from the show.
Taking to Twitter, fans have responded to the news, with one writing: “Just scrap it altogether, they are dropping like flies, going to be no one left soon.”
Another posted: “The best thing you can do now is scrap this series altogether and return next year with all of this series cast, even the ones voted off.
“[It] has been so unfair for so many this year, a huge shame given such a great line-up,” they continued.
A third remarked: “It’s certainly the right choice, especially for those who are training and working hard!”

“Still think it should be suspended full stop until next year and all the contestants who weren’t voted off i.e injured, Covid and still in it should get another go,” they added.
Whilst a fourth commented: “Understandable why this decision has to be taken, but I commend you for trying your very best to give us some entertainment.
“The fact that we managed to get a series at all this year is an achievement in itself really,” they stated.
A few weeks ago, Denise van Outen, 46, became the first contestant to leave the competition after suffering from a shoulder injury.

This was shortly followed by comedian Rufus Hound, 41, who was at first self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus before contracting it himself.
Billie Shepherd, 31, was forced to miss a week of the competition following her grandmother’s death before pulling out completely after sustaining a head injury.
The latest celebrity to quit the latest season was Emmerdal’s Joe-Warren Plant, 18, after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.
Jason Donovan, 52, was forced out of Sunday’s show and given a by to when the programme resumes after he was put on rest following a back injury.
It is hoped he will return to the ice when production starts again in just under two weeks time after the hiatus.
With six celebrities performing on Sunday night, it was Amy Tinkler, 21, and Lady Leshurr, 32, who landed in the skate-off.
After dancing again for the panel, it was the former who ended up making an exit after being drafted in to replace Denise.
There are also no other celebrities on reserve to fill in for any contestant who is forced to drop out in the coming weeks.
Dancing On Ice: The Greatest Show On Ice airs Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
