The tryst between hot, young tradie Ben (Stephen Peacocke) and 50-year-old separated mother Heather (Doris Younane) takes something of a back seat as Ben’s estranged daughter is thrust upon the household. As in real life, these humans take time to work things out and although it can be agonising watching them do so, it’s ultimately rewarding. The squeamish, though, are advised to look away during the dinner scene.

The spotlight is on the fabulous Celeste Barber as her bogan mum Barbara confronts her forward-creeping wine o’clock. The solution may be a little too simple for what can be a pretty serious problem. But it’s probably also quite accessible for many in this spot and not at all preachy. As her unlikely mentor, Patrick Brammall is a hoot. Meanwhile, Ester (Sacha Horler) meets her own guardian angel in disguise at the office.

Those just discovering this moody band of country kids will see a curious way of navigating love and friendship – completely offline.
