Brian Capron has revealed that Coronation Street fans still refer to him as a ‘murderer’.
The actor — who played serial killer Richard Hillman in the ITV soap — has spoken about how his iconic character still follows him around — 16 years after his on-screen demise.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, Brian said: ‘I was at an airport in Majorca and this guy just walks past and says ‘murderer’ under his breath.’
‘There will be others who will shout across the street or those who are genuinely taken aback when they realise it’s the Street’s serial killer Richard Hillman on their train or in the same restaurant as them. It always makes me laugh.’
However, in addition to the positives that came with playing such an iconic role, Brian also reflected on the pressures that came with it, saying: ‘It was crazy. I couldn’t go anywhere. Even for me, as a mature actor, I found it very difficult to cope.’
He recently took part in a one-off special for Halloween on the Coronation Street set, which featured a walking tour of scary storylines from the soap’s history.
Brian featured on the soap for a two-year stint between 2001 and 2003, and left the nation terrified in the process, as Richard murdered his way through the cobbles.
His storyline culminated in an epic fashion when he tried to kill the entire Platt clan by driving his car into the canal.
The serial killer received a mention in Corrie last year when fake psychic Rosemary (Sophie Thompson) attempted to scam Audrey (Sue Nicholls) and Gail (Helen Worth) out of their money by claiming Richard was haunting his wife from beyond the grave.
