Coronation Street star Charlotte Jordan has teased a 'dark' storyline for Daisy Midgeley in the coming months, as her "dodgy" past comes back to haunt her.
Soap fans were first introduced to Daisy's character in 2020, when she first appeared as Jenny Connor's stepdaughter.
And we've already had insights into her troubled upbringing, becoming estranged from Jenny after the breakdown of her marriage to Daisy's dad – along with watching her brother Tom drown in a paddling pool after attempting to resuscitate him.
When Daisy was first introduced, producers even teased the possibility of Daisy going all-out villain, as Charlotte teased to Digital Spy that bosses wanted to see "just how dark [they] can make her".
Now, speaking to Daily Star and other press about her aim to uncover more about her character's past, Charlotte explained: "[Daisy's past] is something that they [the writers] haven't touched on yet, even when I’ve asked.
"I actually don’t know, and I have asked about it because her past is something that’s really interesting to me. I would like to know about it – because she’s such a contrasting character, I’d like to know why she does the things she does."
The actress added: "It wouldn’t surprise me if there have been some dodgy dealings, or if she’s had to escape some bad situations.
"She’s had a very unstable childhood, and if you have one of those it can either go one of two ways. So it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s been in some dodgy situations!"
But the star said she understands Daisy's motivations, elaborating: "As a character Daisy is looking for some stability – I don’t think that’s something she has ever had in her life.
"If you think about all her important relationships, even her relationship with Jenny at one point disappeared. Every relationship she’s had that she’s cared about she’s either ruined or it’s gone wrong or she’s lost it.
"She’s just trying to keep hold of the relationships that matter to her."
And how does Charlotte deal with her character teetering on the chasm between villain and fan-favourite?
She explained that while she does get "some stick" from fans, she would be "concerned" if it was any other way, telling Daily Star: "I would be concerned if people were going, 'Oh, what a great thing to do, yes, spot on!'
"That’s okay, that’s what audiences are for. They’re there to hold characters accountable."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30pm on ITV.
