Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has ruled out swapping to cobbles for the Australian jungle as she prepares to exit the soap in the New Year.
The actress, who portrays Bethany Platt, will be leaving Weatherfield in the new year after a five-year stint – but she has her eyes on more acting roles, not reality TV stardom as the queen of the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.
Speaking to The Sun, the 24-year-old categorically denied following in the footsteps of fellow soap stars Jacqueline Jossa and Andy Whyment and heading to Oz.
‘I don’t think I’d be very good,’ Lucy shared, while she also expanded on her plans following her exit as Bethany, and it looks like more acting work is on the cards.
‘I’d like to do more dramas [after Corrie],’ the actress confirmed.
One person who will definitely miss Lucy when she’s gone, however, is her on-screen mother Tina O’Brien, who has said she’s ‘in denial’ over the impending exit.
While there’s no word yet as to how Bethany will exit the soap — although recent images revealed her to be in the company of the villainous Ray Crosby (Mark Frost), so that could well have something to do with it — but it’s safe to say that viewers will miss her, considering how instrumental she’s been in some of the soap’s biggest storylines over the last couple of years.
However, we’re not the only ones who’ll shed a tear when Bethany leaves Weatherfield, as actress Tina O’Brien — who plays Bethany’s mum Sarah — has spoken about how she will miss her.
Speaking about Lucy’s upcoming departure, Tina said: ‘I love her and I really genuinely am going to miss her. I selfishly don’t want Lucy to go but I completely understand that she has to and it’s the best thing she could do for herself.’
‘There are other things she wants to do. She’s young, she’s beautiful, she’s talented and I really hope she flies. I’m really going to miss her – she is my little… we’ve got to the point where we say the same things at the same time on set. We’ll do daft things.’
‘Weirdly I left at 24 and she’s just turned 25 so we have that similar thing. I don’t think she would ever go can I ask for your advice but I would probably offer it without being asked!’
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30 pm on ITV.
