Emma (played by Alexandra Mardell) has her world turned upside down earlier this year on Coronation Street when the death of the man who raised her led to the discovery Steve (Simon Gregson) was her father. Although the hairdresser has started to come around to the idea the taxi-driver will be a part of her life, a secret revealed on tonight’s instalment of the ITV soap could see the stalwart turn his back on his daughter.

Since discovering she had been lied to by her mother Fiona Middleton (Angela Griffin) for her whole life, Emma originally resented Steve for putting her life on its head.

It was down to the hapless father’s youngest daughter Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) to try and convince her sister to give the former Rovers Return owner a chance.

Last week saw a possible turning point in their relationship when the barmaid was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery to remove a ruptured appendix.

Having pulled through the procedure with no implications, the hairdresser made huge progress with her biological father by finally calling him dad, but this evening’s scenes have hinted this could all soon come to ruin.

After being discharged from hospital, Emma decided to go and stay with her new family as she recovered from the surgery.

Amy was overjoyed to have her big sister living with her and Steve couldn’t do enough to make his daughter feel welcome.

However, when the barmaid spent some time with her sibling, she uncovered some secret messages the schoolgirl had been exchanging with Tyler Jefferies (Will Barnett).

Earlier this year, the youngster fell pregnant with the troublemaker’s child and it was fair to say her father was not happy with the news.

Amy eventually decided to terminate the pregnancy but was warned to stay away from the rogue, who has since changed his life around.

Explaining herself to Emma, the schoolgirl said: “We’re not doing anything, just texting and he’s completely changed.

“I know you think you have to be all responsible and tell my dad what’s going on – I swear down, it would ruin my life if he found out.”

“Do you promise you won’t him near you again?’ Emma asked as she considered siding with her sister, to which Amy agreed.

The barmaid promised to not say anything, but it’s clear she was uncomfortable with the dilemma of having to keep the secret.

It will be out of her hands however as upcoming scenes will see Steve discover the truth from another source.

Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) will tell the taxi-driver about his daughter’s blossoming friendship with Tyler as he has his own motives for getting the former troublemaker away from Weatherfield.

The Bistro chef stirs the pot as he doesn’t want his double life with the juvenile’s mother Vicky Jefferies (Kerri Quinn) to be exposed.

Viewers will have to see how Steve reacts to the news, but will he discover his eldest child didn’t tell him about Amy’s secret?

If Emma admits she knew the truth but didn’t want to put her relationship with her sister in jeopardy, will the taxi-driver turn his back on his long-lost daughter?

The dispute between the pair could lead to the return of Fiona to the cobbles to try and broker peace between them.

Speaking to press, including Express.co.uk, Angela, 43, said of a comeback: “There’s unfinished business with Steve.”
