Steve McDonald (played by Simon Gregson) has been having a rough time as little Oliver Battersby’s (Emmanuel and Jeremiah Cheetham) life hangs in the balance after being diagnosed with a life-limiting condition. After a tough day in the hospital, Steve went looking for lunch and ended up at Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) shop looking for a sausage sarnie. However, fans hit out at Coronation Street last night when they found out how much Dev is selling sausages for.
Dev and Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) were discussing their new quarantine looks last night, when the police officer asked Steve what he thought.
Distracted, Simon said: “Yes, yes very good. Where are the sandwiches?”
Dev had to tell the distressed father all the sandwiches were sold out as Craig offered Steve his egg and cress.
A tired Steve said: “Dev, look, have you not got like an all-day breakfast hanging around in the back?”
The conversation took a turn when Craig asked how little Ollie was doing.
Steve said: “Good, thank you, well I say good but it’s pretty awful but, you just soldier on.”
Dev noticed Steve was distracted adding: “You seem agitated.”
“Well, I spent most of the day wondering if Oliver is going to have another seizure and now I can’t even get a flippin’ sausage sandwich,” Steve snapped.
He stomped over to the freezer and decided he would go it alone and make his own sandwich.
When Dev revealed he was selling packs of sausages for £5.28 both Steve and the viewers were horrified.
Fans immediately took to Twitter to express their outrage as one viewer said: “£5.28 for a pack of sausages #Corrie.”
“Did Dev say £5.28 or £12.28 for those sausages? #Corrie” questioned another.

A third scolded: “How much for a pack of sausages !!!! #corrie rewound just to check my hearing.”
Another demanded to know: “Did Dev say £5.28 for a pack of sausages? #daylightrobbery #corrie #coronationstreet.”
“Expensive bangers those! #Corrie” uttered a fifth.
Another added: “£5.28 for frozen sausages?? Always knew Dev was a shady f** #Corrie #coronationstreet.
“Bl**dy hell #Dev £5.28 for a pack of sausages you’re more expensive than Tesco #Corrie,” another fan tweeted.
The stress was obviously getting to Steve though as later in the episode, he took his frozen sausages and confronted Nina (Mollie Gallagher) on her vegan crusade.
Steve demanded Nina cook them for him in Roy’s Rolls but the young woman refused, which isn’t what he needed on such a stressful day.
Coronation Street airs on ITV on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm.
