Coronation Street is apparently lining up a death shock for Emma Brooker, sparking the return of a past character, Fiona Middleton, it’s been claimed.
It’s been reported that Emma will be left devastated in upcoming scenes, as she learns the tragic news her father has passed away.
Emma will be left heartbroken, being close with her father despite not having mentioned her family since her arrival on the Cobbles last year.
But amid rumours Alexandra Mardell’s character is linked to a former Corrie favourite, The Sun Online are now claiming this will be confirmed when said character rocks up in Weatherfield.
When Emma arrived in 2018, viewers speculated she might be the daughter of former character Fiona Middleton, played by Angela Griffin.
While speculation quickly died down, it’s recently been confirmed the actress is reprising her role on the ITV soap.
This left many predicting the link might be correct, while the soap has yet to confirm any details on the storyline.
But according to the publication, a TV source has confirmed Fiona’s return is linked to Emma, and that she is her mother.
Fiona will apparently break the news of her father’s passing to a distraught Emma, sparking her return to Weatherifled.
A source said: “Emma hasn’t mentioned her family much since arriving on the cobbles but she does love them. She’s going to be completely devastated by the sudden death of her dad. She was the apple of his eye and she worshipped him.
“It’s going to be really tough for her. Especially when her mum Fiona tells her the heartbreaking news.
“Alexandra is one of the most popular actresses in the show for her comedy work but bosses really want to show what she can do with a dramatic storyline.”
It’s also claimed a twist will see Fiona break the news to ex-boyfriend Steve McDonald that he is Emma’s real dad, something neither he or Emma knows.
Steve is tipped to make the discovery when Fiona makes a brief return in the coming months, no doubt sparking a huge new storyline for the characters involved.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
