Chloe x Halle brought the Disney princess musical repertoire to new heights yesterday with a stunning rendition of “Almost There” from the studio’s 2009 adaptation of The Princess and the Frog. They made a cameo in a set featuring the voice behind Princess Tiana herself, Anika Noni Rose.
The siblings, aged 21 and 20 respectively, belted out the bouncy tune as animations from the original film appeared on-screen and finished big with shiny harmonies layered over Rose’s vocals. The remote performance was part of The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II, which aired on ABC on Sunday night. The program featured covers of famous Disney melodies by celebrities, including Keke Palmer singing “Zero to Hero” from Hercules, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson singing the title song from Beauty and the Beast, and even Katy Perry singing “Baby Mine” from Dumbo (in full costume).
The studio held its first TV sing-along last month, which famously included a reunion of the High School Musical cast and a cover of Hercules‘s “Don’t Say I’m in Love” by Ariana Grande.
Halle Bailey’s appearance in last night’s installment is a slight nod to her upcoming role as an iconic Disney princess: Ariel in The Little Mermaid. Her casting was announced last summer, and production on the live-action remake was set to begin this year; although, it’s unclear if filming is still on schedule with the movie industry being put on hold due to the current global pandemic.
While we wait, we might just watch the performance of “Almost There” on repeat.
