The Chicago Med cast just got bigger. It was recently announced two new cast members will be joining the team. Here’s what Showbiz Cheat Sheet knows about the television series’ latest additions.
There were major cast changes during ‘Chicago Med’ Season 6
Chicago Med Season 6 had an unexpected cast shakeup. Torrey DeVitto (Dr. Natalie Manning) and Yaya DaCosta (April Sexton) decided to leave the Dick Wolf series after six seasons.
The season 6 finale featured the drama between Dr. Natalie Manning and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). Natalie was so desperate to save her mother’s life (she has heart failure) that she stole medication from Will’s clinical trial. Will covered for Natalie by giving her more medication when she ran low. He was later fired by Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) for compromising the trial.
April Sexton decided to move on after being accepted to a nurse practitioner program. Her departure hasn’t been shown on screen, but it’s implied she will take the next step and leave Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Since Yaya DaCasota left the show, it’s unlikely we will see April again (unless DaCosta decides to return for a guest spot).
‘Chicago Med’ adds two new characters
Two new characters will join Chicago Med, filling in the gaps left by DeVitto and DaCosta. Actors Guy Lockard and Kristen Hager have been named cast regulars, reports Deadline. Lockard plays Dr. Dylan Scott, who left the Chicago Police Department so he could pursue a career as a physician, according to Deadline. The publication says it isn’t clear if Dylan Scott’s storyline is connected to any characters from sister show Chicago P.D. Hager plays Dr. Stevie Hammer. She’s described as a “brilliant and scrappy” physician.
Now that the love triangle between Natalie, Crockett, and Will is over, we wonder if there will be another romance. Who will be the next Chicago Med couple? Could there be a romance between Dr. Scott and Dr. Hammer? We can’t wait to find out.
Guy Lockard’s movies and TV shows
One of Lockard’s early television roles was in a 2009 episode of the series Law & Order titled “Shotgun.” In 2011, he appeared in an episode of Law & Order: SVU titled “Personal Fouls.” His other roles include appearances in Gossip Girl, The Blacklist, and Chicago Fire.
Kristen Hager’s movies and TV shows
One of Hager’s early acting roles was in the 2005 TV mini-series Beach Girls. She played Skye for six episodes. The following year, she played Kylie in four episodes of the series Runaway. She made her film debut in the 2007 movie I’m Not There, in which she played Mona/Polly. That year she also played the character Jesse in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.
In 2009, Hager joined the cast of Valemon. She played Sophie Gracen for 35 episodes. Hager is also known for her appearances in Being Human, The Kennedys After Camelot, and Candor.
Is Dr. Will Halstead returning to ‘Chicago Med’?
One questions many fans have is about Will. Could he get his job back? It looks like there is hope for his return. Nick Gehlfuss, who plays will Halstead, signed a multi-year deal to continue his role on Chicago Med, according to Deadline.
