We last saw Charley Webb in Emmerdale back in 2021, when her character Debbie Dingle returned to the village to seek revenge on Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).

Debbie teamed up with Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade) to take revenge on the villainous character who’d been seeing them both at the same time.

Before Debbie left a massive rift opened between her and her mum Charity (Emma Atkins), after Al manipulated Charity into revealing the truth about how Debbie set him up. Following this, Debbie declared that her relationship with her mum was over.

After her departure there were reports that Charley wouldn’t be returning to the role, with a ‘source’ telling the press that ‘Charley is closing the door on Emmerdale for good and won’t be going back.’

However, her character is very much alive as Debbie is often mentioned by her mum Charity and other characters. In the recent storyline about Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) getting pregnant with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb)’s baby, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) took Chloe to stay with Debbie for a while.

Fans would love to see Debbie return, and recently Charley has used a Q&A session on her Instagram to offer a glimpse of hope that we could soon see her back in the Dales.

Along with answering questions about her children’s hair and her tips on dealing with anxiety and stress, one fan asked, ‘When will we see you back on our screens? Can’t wait!’

Charley’s reply is, ‘Before the end of the year.’

Now whether this is on Emmerdale or whether she has some other project in the pipeline remains to be seen.

She will be appearing soon in a TV mini series called The Long Shadow, in which she plays a police officer. This will be her second major TV role after leaving Emmerdale, with the first being BBC drama Better, which is on iPlayer.

Charley has a lot of friends in Emmerdale and recently shared pictures of a reunion with colleagues and best friends Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel Thomas), Emma Atkins and Zoe Henry (Rhona Goskirk).

‘Weekend in the Yorkshire Dales celebrating 20 years of friendship,’ she wrote, sharing a reel on Instagram. ‘Til the end of time.’

She is also married to Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe). The couple got married in 2018 and they share three sons, Buster, Bowie and Ace, who keep her very busy.

So Charley is still strongly connected to the show. But could she be considering a return this year?
