CAROL Voulderman has opened up about ageist comments as she reveals she's been called "mutton dressed as lamb" for 20 years for wearing skimpy clothes.

The 58-year-old presenter made the shock admission on This Morning while discussing a recent SunLife life insurance survey on ageism.

Alongside Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, the former Countdown host admitted she was subjected to a string of ageist comments after wearing a short boob tube dress to the BAFTAs in 2000.

The host, who regularly shows off her hourglass figure on social media, revealed the dress prompted criticism, including a particular "mutton dressed as lamb" comment.

When asked when she had experienced ageism, Carol said: “Most of my life, let’s be fair. Twenty years ago I wore a blue dress to the BAFTAs which was above the knee, I was 39.

"That became a massive story, programmes were made about it. Not about the dress, it became about should a woman aged 39 wear a dress above the knee? I was called mutton dressed as lamb.

"Would you call a 39 year-old today mutton dressed as lamb because she wore a dress above the knee? Of course you wouldn’t! That’s just nonsense."

Despite the odd age comment, Carol went on to reveal she feels "freer than ever before" as she approaches turning 60 next year.

When discussing her fifties, she said: "The best decade. I feel fantastic. Obviously tragedy happens, but that’s life. But I feel freer than ever before."

Although the TV star, who was raised in Prestatyn, North Wales insisted she wants to "cause as much mischief as possible" in the upcoming years.
