Dan Walker and Louise Minchin were on the BBC Breakfast sofa this morning and the conversations centred mostly around the Black Lives Matter protests that took place across the UK this weekend. However, Dan took his co-hosts by surprise as he pointed out the show was running late despite Carol Kirkwood telling them the time she would appear.

A number of large protests took place this weekend in the wake of George Floyd’s death, an unarmed black man who was killed by a white police officer in the US. 

Dan and Louise spoke to a number of people today from the Police Minister Kit Malthouse to the Shadow Chancellor, Anneliese Jane Dodds after a number of statues were damaged during the protests. 

The hosts discussed whether the protestors should be prosecuted for the damage done and whether other statues should be taken down. 

However, away from the major news story, BBC Breakfast also provided viewers with an update on the weather forecast, but not before Dan took swipe at his and his colleague’s timekeeping

He said: “Now if you were watching at 6am this morning you would have heard Carol say that she would be with us at 6:27am,

“We’re a minute late!” Dan exclaimed as he noticed the show had ran over it allotted time.

He then asked: “Carol, what is happening with the weather?” 

Carol was left giggling at the timekeeping blunder as she quickly replied: “That’s good for us though, Dan, I have to say.”
