Good Morning Britain hosts Kate Garraway, 53, and Ben Shephard, 46, were joined on the programme by Owen Jones and Calvin Robinson to debate freedom of speech, which Piers Morgan, 55, has spoken out about since he quit his role earlier this week. Jones agreed that people fought for their right to voice their views, but said that “people get confused” on where the lines blur between giving their opinion and being offensive before he referenced wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill in his rant. Those ITV viewers watching the debate at home couldn’t believe what they were hearing and took to Twitter to comment.

One wrote: “Just when Piers leaving #GMB isn’t quite enough, they bring on Owen Jones just to kill off any lingering viewers.”

Another posted: “We need freedom of speech in a democracy. Thanks to Churchill Owen Jones has the right to express his derogatory views #GMB.”

A third viewer remarked: “Can it get any worse…Got that toe rag Owen Jones on, spouting rubbish again #GMB.”

“@calvinrobinson talking complete and utter sense again on @GMB while Owen Jones is ranting the usual woke b***s***. Seriously @gmb do yourselves a favour and offer the job to the voice reason @calvinrobinson.”

Others were in agreement with Jones, however, as a fifth commented: “How people don’t understand the fact that freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequences baffles me. Really enjoyed listening to @OwenJones84 this morning #GMB.”
