On Friday, Beyond Paradise fans were left gutted as the BBC series was replaced by Comic Relief. However, the Death in Paradise spin-off will return next week, giving fans an insight into how DI Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd’s (Sally Bretton) relationship will play out.

The latest instalment saw the detective solving the theft of an expensive painting,

Humphrey had a mystery on his hands because the painting was taken under the supervision of police officer Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn), who was watching over the expensive antique overnight.

Meanwhile, Martha put everything into running her new restaurant, while also coming to terms with the loss of her unborn child.

Beyond Paradise, which was filmed in Devon and Cornwall, has also seen Martha and Humphrey’s relationship put to the test when an old flame arrived in Shipton Abbott.

The DI came face to face with Martha’s ex, Archie (Jamie Bamber), who has invested money in her restaurant.

However, in a new interview, the actress who plays Martha admitted that the Humphrey and Archie scenes were the most fun to film.

She said: “A scene I really like is when Humphrey and Archie first meet.

“That’s full of awkward moments, which is fun to play!”

When discussing Martha’s new venture and Archie coming back into her character’s life, Sally continued: “It’s a bit of a struggle for Martha to get the restaurant off the ground.

“It’s a bit touch-and-go for a while whether she’ll manage it, but an old friend steps in and invests in the restaurant and becomes part of the team.

“The café is called the Ten Mile Kitchen because all the ingredients that they use within the kitchen will be sourced within ten miles of Shipton Abbott, including their wine!

The chap who owns the vineyard is someone from Martha’s past, Archie, and he comes in and helps her, becoming a partner in the restaurant.”

“That’s interesting, him coming back into her life, and what he brings by doing that,” the actress teased.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk and other press, Sally discussed Martha and Humphrey’s struggle with conceiving a child of their own.

“Yeah, well, obviously you can see from the first episode that they have been through a journey with IVF and we don’t really go on that process with them,” she shared.

“But as Tim [Key] said, it’s more about what that means later and whether they will continue on that journey and how families look.”

When chatting about whether Martha’s head will be turned by Archie, Sally hinted the storyline is explored.

“I just think whenever you move back home when you’ve lived away for a while back to the place where you grew up, there are always a few randoms lurking.,” she added.

“So yeah, we have a look at that.”

Beyond Paradise returns on Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
