BBC Breakfast left a number of viewers exasperated on Monday morning as the Oscars took precedence on the show.

Presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were back on the red sofa covering a range of subjects on the popular morning programme.

But the 95th Academy Awards appeared to gain a lot of coverage on the news show as some fans demanded that it was enough.

Taking to Twitter, disgruntled viewers shared their thoughts.

One person wrote: "Can you now stop talking about the Oscars and actually talk about more serious news now . China is going to Russia next week to meet Putin."

Another said: "Nobody cares about the Oscars. Give us the news instead."

While a third chimed: "BBC Oscars coverage is completely over the top – tedious beyond belief."

But despite some backlash, some were happy to see the Oscars being reported at length and asked the presenters to mention British artist Charlie Mackesy.

Jumping back onto the platform, one person wrote: "You haven't mentioned Charlie Mackesy's Oscar!!!! Please please give it a mention. He is such a lovely man and his story about the boy and the horse is phenomenal!"

And another chimed: "Don’t forget that Charlie Macksey won an Oscar last night for best short animated film!"
