The Only Way Is Essex star was one of the celebrities appearing on Sunday’s instalment of the Great British Bake Off Stand Up to Cancer. As the episode got underway, Gemma Collins added a serious amount of rose water into her cake mix, leaving fans fearing it would come out tasting like “soap”.
The reality TV star was joined in the Channel 4 tent by Tim Key, AJ Odudu and Jessica Hynes for the episode.
Gemma decided to make a pink layered cake with raspberry and rose flavouring during the episode and hoped to impress Paul Hollywood with her talent.
When Paul and fellow judge Prue Leith walked over to Gemma to see her creation in progress, she told them: “The colour is everything.
“Do you know what, if something tastes terrible, if it looks good, it’s worth it, you know?”
She would top her cake with sparkly glitter and fill it with homemade jam.
Gemma explained to Paul: “It’s going to be beautiful, it’s got the right depth and it’s just going to come down to the flavouring.
“I just feel like, obviously I have watched this show and I have seen you talk about the cake and the depth of the sponge. So yes, let’s see if it takes good.”
When Paul wished her good luck, she told the cameras: “Do you know what? I had to be professional looking at him, but he’s gorgeous, there’s no denying it.
“At the end of the day, he just wants to know if the sponge tastes good.”
As Gemma continued with the cooking she told viewers she was adding half a bottle of rose water to the mix which left viewers baffled.
Sam Farmer shared on Twitter: “Gemma should just add a squirt of fancy soap into the mixture with the amount of rose flavouring she plopped in #GBBO.”
Jamie Summers said: “One drop of rose is enough. Gemma Collins? Half a bottle #GBBO.”

AJ added: “Fiver says Gemma adds too much rose water and that cake comes out tasting like your nan’s Yardley perfume #gbbo.”
Anna remarked: “Rose flavour belongs nowhere near any form of food and I will die on that hill #GBBO.”
Amy quipped: “Half a bottle of Rose flavouring?!! Can’t wait for Paul and Prue to taste that!”
Tina exclaimed: “#GBBO Half a bottle of rose essence? Christ, it’ll taste like she’s baked her nan’s toilet water!”
Once the cake was baked, the judges came over to try it as Gemma watched on in excitement.
But Prue told Gemma she needed to “turn down the raspberry and the rose”.
Despite not winning the episode, Gemma said: “I am going to take this on board and I am going to know on my next cake less is more.”
The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on All4.
