Game show The Void has been ditched.

Daily Star Sunday can reveal ITV chiefs have pulled the plug after just one series.

The move is a big blow for hosts Fleur East and Ashley Banjo, who had hoped it would be a big hit.

An ITV insider said: “After some discussions, bosses have decided not to commission another series of The Void.

“There are currently no plans to bring the show back.”

The Void failed to pull in big ratings.

It was given a plum slot on Saturday nights and the first episode was watched by 2.4million people.

But within weeks its viewing figures had plummeted and bosses were left “unimpressed”.

ITV still has the option to revive it in the future, so it could return one day.

Our insider said: “Technically it could come back at some point, but that seems pretty unlikely.”

All terrestrial channels are struggling to find light entertainment formats that are popular with the viewers.

Scores of new shows are axed every year after failing to pull in decent ratings.

Recent casualties include ITV’s Five Gold Rings, Channel 4’s The Crystal Maze and BBC’s Bank Balance.

And, of course, even The X Factor has been dropped over dismal viewing figures.

So it’s really no surprise ITV makes such a song and dance about The Masked Singer.

But let’s hope the bigwigs aren’t put off trying out new formats that viewers might fall in love with.
