Leida Margeretha and Eric Rosenbrook of 90 Day Fiancé fame have always had a dramatic relationship. Fans might remember the altercations between Eric and Leida that led Eric to kick his own teenage daughter out of the house — and subsequently file the paperwork for Leida to obtain a restraining order against his daughter as well. Since then, the couple has quit the show amid death threats. However, their drama isn’t over just yet. In January, Wisconsin police were called to the couple’s Baraboo, WI home amid allegations of abuse.
Leida’s granted a restraining order
In a controversial episode of 90 Day Fiancé, Eric Rosenbrook decided it was time to do what Leida Margaretha wanted, and kicked his own teenage daughter out of his home. Leida had expressed irritation that the daughter, Tasha, was still living with Eric. Ironically, Eric had just recently given Leida a lesson on what family means in America.
“In America, family is what matters. And it’s everybody, even kids from a different marriage,” said Eric in the episode. He then went home and kicked out his daughter. He then helped Leida fill out the paperwork for her restraining order.
As a result, Tasha is no longer allowed to have contact with Leida. She may, however, communicate with her father. Since then, the two have been estranged.
Concerns over Leida’s mental health
Earlier in January, Eric held an Instagram Live session in which he told fans that police performed a wellness check in Leida after she posted suicidal thoughts on social media. Additionally, the couple quit 90 Day Fiancé as a result of death threats.
In a since-deleted Instagram video, Leida outlined how she felt about receiving death threats. “We put our lives in danger. We put our lives on the frontline. This is not fair. This is not worth it all. We are never going to do this again. … I swear to God, once the contract is done, we will reveal everything that they didn’t on the show.”
She went on to add, “How can people wishing me die? This is not fair. I’m a human too. … I didn’t sign up for this. We didn’t know they’re going to portray us that bad.”
The backlash likely came as a result of Leida and Eric’s choice to kick Tasha out of the apartment. Many fans also noted that Leida also pushed Eric to essentially abdicate parental responsibility of his child in favor of their relationship together.
What went down
Naturally, there are two sides to the story regarding the alleged violence and the call to the cops. According to a screenshot acquired by Instagrammer John Yates, Leida had allegedly sent a text to an unspecified contact that read, “He pulled my hairs really hard. I don’t want to live with him anymore. I was about to kill my self with a knife. He grabbed a knife and abused me after that.”
In an Instagram Live video, Eric addressed fan concerns, and told his side of the story. “She was threatening self-harm, I wrestled a knife from her. But my training took over, it triggered my training…and I went too far. Nothing serious was caused, other than emotional trauma, which is severe. I may have scratched her scalp, I did not realize I did that. After I wrestled the knife from her, my training took over and the only thing I could think of was to restrain her,” explained Eric.
Eric went on to add, “I do not excuse how it happened, I know I should’ve handled that differently. After I stood her up I had to restrain her wrists, I was afraid of her hitting herself or myself. We argued and fought a little bit, not physically after that. I kept her against the wall in the kitchen, the corner as she says, it’s not really a corner, it’s just the end of the kitchen. And I kept her there because she would’ve had to pass the sink again and the knife, and knives, so I kept her there, I did not let her pass.”
