The Washington Football Team has released Derrius Guice after the running back turned himself in on Friday after alleged domestic violence charges.
Among the charges levied at Guice, 23, are one count felony strangulation, three counts of assault and battery, and one charge of destruction of property, according to the Washington Post.
“On Thursday, we learned of a potential domestic violence related incident involving RB Derrius Guice,” Washington said in a statement on social media. “We immediately alerted the National Football League and have continued to work with them in this process. We then met with Derrius to inform him that he was excused from all team activity pending a review of this matter.
“This afternoon, we learned that there were multiple charges filed against Derrius. Upon review of the nature of these charges and following internal discussions, we have decided to release Derrius immediately.”
The 2018 second-round draft pick was handcuffed and taken inside Loudoun Adult Detention Center in Leesburg, Va. Guide has reportedly hired Peter D. Greenspun, a Northern Virginia criminal attorney who has represented D.C. sniper John Allen Muhammad and sportscaster Marv Albert in the past.
Guice, who’s first two NFL seasons were cut short by knee injuries, was set to compete with Adrian Peterson for playing time in 2020.
