UFC president Dana White fears no one will want to fight Valentina Shevchenko after her terrifying head kick knockout in a short-lived flyweight title defense against Jessica Eye at UFC 238.
Shevchenko set Eye up beautifully, kicking her hard to the body to get her to drop her guard before delivering a decapitating left-footed shot that left her opponent unconscious.
“She is literally a wrecking machine. She is an animal,” White said. “It’s getting to the point where you have to start thinking, who is she gonna fight next? There’s always opponents but she is so nasty, I don’t know who is gonna be jumping up screaming for Shevchenko, I can tell you that. Maybe somebody will but I wouldn’t want to fight her.”
After her second-round victory, Shevchenko’s reaction was ice cold. “It’s sport,” Shevchenko said. “If you are not doing this kind of KO, you will get this kind of KO, and no one wants to get it. That’s why we are training very hard to be better than our opponents. Everybody who steps into the Octagon, they know what they can get.”
Eye was flat on the mat for a troublingly long time but confirmed she was OK on Twitter. “Thank you for caring about me,” Eye tweeted. “I had a great camp and felt the best I have ever. I made some mistakes that cost me dearly. This fight game can be rough at times, but it’s what I signed up for.”
