TOTTENHAM have lodged an appeal to overturn Son Heung-min red card against Chelsea.

The South Korea international was sent off in the second half of the 2-0 defeat after VAR ruled that he kicked out at Antonio Rudiger.

This incident led to Rudiger claiming he was racially abused by one or more fans in the home end.

Mourinho confirmed that the club would appeal it, saying: "I hope Son is not punished five times.

"One time was the foul that Rudiger did on him. The second is to be sent off.

"The third would be not to play against Brighton.

"The fourth not to play against Norwich and the fifth not to play against Southampton.

"So I think to be punished twice is enough."

THIRD RED OF THE SEASON

Son has now been sent off three times this season, but of course the second red he received was overturned.

It came when he slid in to win the ball against Everton in a tackle that resulted in Andre Gomes breaking his leg in two places.

Mourinho was seething after the game, saying that he believed Rudiger to have made the most from the clash.

The Portuguese gaffer said: "I think Mr Tierney made it wrong.

"This is England, this is the Premier League, the best competition in the world, with characteristics that if we change them we are killing the best league in the world."

UNWANTED ACHIEVEMENT

SunSport reported how the South Korean has become the first player since Lee Cattermole in 2010 to be sent off THREE times in calendar year.

Not since notorious hardman Cattermole in 2010 had any player been sent for an early shower so often in a single year.

Son was also shown red in his final Premier League game of the 2018-19 season, in May, in the 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth.

The Tottenham winger kicked out at Jefferson Lerma after being crowded by a host of Cherries defenders, before shoving him to the ground.

But his most-recent red saw him join ex-Sunderland star Cattermole in the history books for all the wrong reasons.

In fact, only Franck Queudrue (Middlesbrough, 2002), Dion Dublin (Coventry, 1997) and Vinnie Jones (Wimbledon, 1995) have been shown three red cards in a single year in Premier League history.
