TEAM GB’S sevens stars pulled off an amazing comeback to make the last four.
The Rio silver medallists were staring down the barrel of a humiliating quarter-final defeat as they trailed 21-0 to the USA with seconds left in the first half before somehow emerging as 26-21 winners.
Skipper Tom Mitchell was forced off with a knock and his team looked bereft against the sheer power of the soaring Eagles.
Burly Danny “Boom Boom” Barrett barged over for the first.
And then a brace in the space of 30 seconds from Perry Baker, as GB failed to deal with the restarts, looked terminal.
But Ollie Lindsay-Hughes breathed life into the contest.
He scampered over and GB then took advantage of Stephen Tomasin's yellow card.
They levelled with scores by Ben Harris and Alex Davis, both converted by Dan Bibby, with three-and-a-half minutes to go.
And Bibby was responsible for the key moment.
He forced a penalty at the breakdown, took it quickly and fed Dan Norton to run in down the left and score the clincher.
