ASTON VILLA are considering a January transfer swoop for Eric Dier, according to the bookmakers.

The Villains spent more than £130million in the summer after their return to the Premier League.

But now they may be ready to go back into the market to bring in more top-flight experience.

Dier, 25, is struggling this season, playing in just three matches.

The form of Harry Winks and arrival of record-signing Tanguy Ndombele have seen the pair get the nod from Mauricio Pochettino in midfield.

Dier came off the bench in the win over Southampton but played 90 minutes in the humiliating defeats to Colchester and Brighton.

Poch has tried to pursuade the 40-cap England man to fight for his place at White Hart Lane.

The manager said: "It has been difficult [for Dier]. Of course it is tough for him.

“He has to wait through training and then of course he has the opportunity. He has to try to fight for his place.

“We have a big squad, I need to take the decision performance by performance. The plan is the plan.

"We are going to assess the player and then make the decision.”

READY TO SELL

But now it is thought Spurs may be ready to let their man – who they signed from Sporting in 2014 – go, after more than 200 appearances.

Some bookies have Dier at 10-1 to make the switch to Villa Park in January as the club desperately try and avoid relegation immediately back to the Championship.

They currently sit 15th, one point clear of the drop zone but do have a long list of central midfielders.

Jack Grealish, John McGinn, Marvelous Nakamba, Douglas Luiz, Conor Hourihane and Henri Lansbury are already in the West Midlands competing for places.

Manchester United appears to be the most likely destination for Dier at 7-2 with Everton at 9-2 to sign him in January.

Spurs' London rivals West Ham and Crystal Palace are outside bets at 14-1.
