BILLY JOE SAUNDERS has been called an ‘embarrassment’ and accused of ‘not being a man’ after quitting against Canelo Alvarez.

The Brit, 31, is believed to have suffered a fractured eye socket after he was caught by the Mexican with a vicious uppercut in the eighth round.

The star’s eye instantly swelled up and closed due to the multiple fractures of the orbital bone before his corner called the fight.

However, ex-WBA middleweight champion Fernando Vargas has no sympathy for him and tagged him in a vicious Instagram rant slating the wounded Saunders.

The 43-year-old retired American said: “You're really going to freaking quit like a V, like a vagina.

“You're really going to do that? ‘Oh, my eye.’ Come on, Vato, really? Unbelievable. How dare you call yourself a champion.

“You quit like a female dog. How dare you do that. You’re an embarrassment to the sport and to all men because you're not even a man. You should be embarrassed.”

Vargas retired with a professional record of 26 wins and five defeats and he was renowned for withstanding heavy punishment.

He continued his rant against Saunders by claiming he is 'built different' and that his injuries were no more than a ‘little scratch’ – despite promoter Eddie Hearn revealing he had been rushed to hospital and his career was potentially in the balance.

Vargas added: “Vatos like me are just BUILT DIFFERENT than you. Vatos that say you will 'DIE IN THE RING,' and end up quitting for a little scratch or cut in your eye. What are you Vatos doing in the sport?”

Following Canelo’s victory, the icon revealed he knew that Saunders would not be coming back out for round nine.

He said: “I said it would be around round eight.

“I think I broke his cheek and I knew he wasn't going to come out.

“I told my corner he's not coming out because I broke his cheek. It was not as difficult as I expected and that is because of my preparation.”
