WOLVES boss Bruno Lage has admitted his struggle to hold on to star midfielder Ruben Neves over the summer.

The Portuguese international, 24, has shone at Molineux ever since his surprise move from Porto in 2017.

His displays have caught the eye of several Premier League big boys.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with Neves over recent months.

And Lage, who only took over from Nuno Espirito Santos in the Wolves dug-out, has revealed his fear over losing his ace.

However, he insists that Neves made the right decision to stay instead of leaving elsewhere.

Lage said: “This is life after the big teams come for this player.

“I live with the rumour he can leave but he stayed with us. In this way he took the best decision.

“Don’t go, stay and continue to improve with us and help us to be better. Let’s see what happens.”

He added: “What Nuno did was very good and I want to continue with that. The project is to take Wolves to the next step.

“From the club’s side we need to conquer our players to stay with us

“Not just with a contract and salary but more ambition to be better.”
