ARSENAL are the best backed team to win this season's Premier League ahead of their return to action tonight.

That's according to Betfair, who say 1 in 5 punts on the title winner has been on Mikel Arteta's men.

The Gunners get the 2022/23 season underway later tonight when the travel across London to face Crystal Palace.

Arteta's side are fresh off the back of a 6-0 win over Sevilla, which followed a thumping 4-0 win against Chelsea in pre-season.

The signing of Gabriel Jesus looks significant, with the former Manchester City man bagging seven goals in four pre-season games – despite not playing more than 75 minutes in either game.

Betfair reckon that early promise has punters believing Arsenal can win at a big price.

Around 20% of all bets have been for the North London side and they are 30/1 to lift the trophy come the end of the season.

Rivals Tottenham are the next popular with punters, with 17% of all wagers at Betfair placed on them.

Spurs have also done good business on paper this summer and under Antonio Conte they looked a different side in the latter part of the season.

He guided them to a Champions League spot last term and fans will be optimistic they can go one better.

Man City are the short-priced favourites to win the title and 15% of bets have come for the current champions.

The additions up top of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez appear to be exceptionally strong ones and it will surely take a good side to pip them to the title this season.

Manchester United are another at a big price – 40/1 to win the league – and 12% of punts at Betfair have been on Erik ten Hag's men.

Excitement was brewing in the early stages of pre-season but that has been extinguished by recent results in their friendly games.

While Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool appear to still be the main threat to the Citizens but at 23/10, only 11% of all outright bets have been on the Anfield side.

Speaking about Arsenal, Betfair ambassador Rivaldo said: “I was at the stadium to watch Arsenal's 4-0 win against Chelsea in a friendly match and I had the opportunity to closely check up on the Gunners' evolution under Mikel Arteta.

"A good pre-season is important to boost their confidence at the start of season – especially after they fell away at the end of last season – and I was encouraged by what I saw."

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom added: “It’s all or nothing for punters who are betting on Arsenal, with the Gunners being backed more than any other team to win the Premier League this season.

"Mikel Arteta’s side have received 20% of bets to win the title, while just 15% of bets have been placed on champions Man City, with Tottenham (17%) receiving more.
