OISIN Murphy has been named Stobart Jockey Of The Month for May.
He secured a a total of 28 wins during the month, all which have contributed to him leading the 2019 Flat Jockeys’ Championship.
The 23-year-old scoops the prize after receiving 44% of the vote, ahead of fellow nominees Frankie Dettori (35%) and Andrea Atzeni (21%), who all enjoyed an impressive opening month of the 2019 Championship.
Amongst Murphy’s 28 victories in May were trebles at Windsor and Lingfield, plus a total of five wins during Goodwood’s May Festival.
The most notable win came at York when he steered Telecaster to victory in the Dante Stakes.
Murphy said: “I’m delighted to have been named Jockey of the Month, it is very nice to know that people are behind me, so I’d like to thank everyone who voted.
“Andrea and Frankie are fantastic jockeys who have had some big wins this month, so it’s brilliant to have won the vote.
"It was a great month and to be leading the 2019 Flat Jockeys’ Championship is fantastic.
"I tried very hard to win it last year, but Silvestre de Sousa was too good!
"It is definitely the aim for the season and I just want to keep riding winners and keep everyone happy.”
In winning the competition, Oisin Murphy is awarded £1,000 and a £500 charity donation of his choice. He has selected Macmillan Cancer Support as his chosen charity.
