ARSENAL boss Mikel Arteta hilariously mistook Everton for Burnley after his side lost at Goodison Park.

The Toffees secured a surprise win over the league leaders thanks to James Tarkowski's second-half header.

That gave Sean Dyche a dream start to life in the Everton dugout after taking over as manager last week.

The former Burnley boss had his side fighting for every ball and implemented his typical direct style, leading Arteta to think he had come up against the Clarets.

Speaking to talkSPORT after the game, the Arsenal boss said: “Credit to Burnley, they play I think a really good game, and they lifted the crowd and they deserve to be congratulated.

“The way that they played, they broke the game all the time, it’s so direct.

“Every time the ball is in the air and duels and set pieces and you have to be so good and really consistent and not to get dragged out of the game.

“And we haven’t done well enough today.”

Two ex-Burnley players even combined for the winner as Tarkowski headed in Dwight McNeil's corner.

Everton picked up their first win in 12 games amid continued protests against the club's ownership.

Chairman Bill Kenwright, owner Farhad Moshiri and chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale were the main targets of the protest – but all were absent from the ground.
