It seems like Patrick Mahomes can do anything on the football field. Off it, however, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is a bit more limited.
After signing the richest contract in sports history — worth up to a reported $503 million — the Super Bowl 54 winner detailed what activites he’s no longer allowed to partake in.
“I still don’t think I’m allowed to play basketball,” the 24-year-old told 610 Sports Radio on Tuesday, a day after finalizing his 10-year extension. “I’m sure baseball is not going to be allowed as well. I know there’s a lot of them. They have like everything from jet skiing to, I don’t know what all the things are. I read a lot of them. It’s pretty much every physical activity you can do.”
On Monday, Mahomes agreed to his record-breaking extension contract, which has $477 million in guaranteed mechanisms, and the ability to opt-out at several points if those mechanisms aren’t exercised. There is currently no trade clause, according to the NFL Network.
Despite his physical activity being limited, Mahomes has other outlets that can keep his physical health in check.
“I’ll probably be sticking with football and video games for now,” the “Madden NFL 20” cover boy said.
While the 2018 NFL MVP will now face the several challenges that come with avoiding injury, his only focus now is to continue being himself.
“I’m going out there and being the same person and same athlete that I’ve been since Day 1. It’s never been about the money to me. It’s been about going out there and having success and building a legacy and doing it the right way. And I feel like now, I have that security knowing that the Chiefs believe in me and they believe in me long term. I can go out there and be the person I am on and off the field and have that trust and belief in me the whole time.”
