EDWIN VAN DER SAR is reportedly threatening to quit his role as Ajax chief executive.

And that could allegedly open the door for the Manchester United legend to replace Edu as Arsenal's technical director.

According to Voetbal Nieuws, the Dutchman is considering moving on from Ajax after four years in charge.

And a return to England could be on the cards.

Van der Sar spent ten years in the Premier League with Fulham and Manchester United between 2001 and 2011.

Now reports state he may be in line to take over from Edu at the Emirates.

The Brazilian has come under fire in recent weeks with the Gunners struggling in the Premier League.

Some fans have even called for him to be moved on as the struggles continue.

They sit 15th in the table after 13 games, just five points above the relegation zone, with a number of recruits struggling and further issues within the club.

Van der Sar's colleague Marc Overmars is also being tipped to leave the Amsterdam side.

Currently Ajax's technical director, the ex-Arsenal winger could be on his way back to Barcelona in a boardroom role next year.

However, Manchester United may also be tempted to try and lure Overmars to Old Trafford as they look to appoint their first technical director.

Van der Sar was previously linked with the post but snubbed the opportunity.

Instead, the role reversal could see the goalkeeping hero head to Arsenal and Overmars to United.
