JURGEN KLOPP became the biggest star yet to sign up to Common Goal – and immediately crashed the charity's website.

Liverpool boss Klopp announced he was signing up for the fundraising group set up by Juan Mata as he made a speech at the Fifa Best awards.

Klopp had been named men's coach of the year at the glittering ceremony in Milan on the back of leading the Reds to Champions League glory last season.

And as he took to the stage he revealed: "I'm really proud and happy that I can announce that from today on I am a member of the Common Goal family.

"A few people obviously know [about] it – if not, Google it. It's a great thing."

No sooner had he spoken than thousands of football fans from around the world logged straight on to find out what it was about.

And the deluge of interest was too much for the servers at the charity – which sees stars around the world agree to donate one per cent of their salary to football related initiatives.

Manchester United star Mata set up Common Goal two years ago, and since then a growing list of players have got on board.

Klopp was joined at the awards by the Fifa Best women's star Megan Rapinoe, who had already been part of the organisation along with other female stars lile Alex Morgan and Lucy Bronze.

The Liverpool boss added: “We are all in the very good side of life, that’s why we are here legends. The past was great, the present is really good and the future hopefully will be good for us as well.

"But there are people out there that are not exactly in the same situation.”

RB Leipzig Head Coach, Julian Nagelsmann, 32, who became the first manager to join Common Goal in October 2017, responded to the news: “This is a great moment in the development of Common Goal.

"Jurgen Klopp, with his incredible achievements in the Bundesliga and the Premier League, as well as the way fans beyond his own club hold him in such high esteem, will have a tremendous impact on raising awareness of the movement and inspiring other football managers and top level players to follow suit.”

Along with Mata, otherstars to have joined Common Goal include Kasper Schmeichel at Leicester, Bournemouth's Charlie Daniels and Brighton defender Leon Balogun.
