LEWIS HAMILTON swapped the racetrack for the boxing ring as he stepped up his preparations for the Mexican Grand Prix.

The British superstar, 34, sparred with former pound for pound king Julio Cesar Chavez in front of a crowd of excited fans.

Hamilton looked the part in his dressing gown as he waited for his opponent to climb into the ring.

The Formula 1 champion then showed off his skills as he unleashed some fierce combos.

Chavez, who was a world champion in three weight divisions, even taught the 34-year-old how to improve his left hook.

And the 57-year-old rolled back the years as he fired a few light shots into Hamilton's torso.

It was a promotional event, but Hamilton could have been hoping to improve his reflexes ahead of the GP.

Hamilton will secure a sixth world championship he out-scores team-mate Valtteri Bottas by 14 points on Sunday 27.

And SunSport exclusively revealed that he will be rewarded with a new bumper contract at Mercedes.

His current deal expires at the end of next season, but the deal will be used to fend off interest from Ferrari.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said: "As long as we are able to provide the winning car, Lewis has no reason to consider other teams – and we have no reason to look elsewhere."
