KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS' FA Cup hero Matt Preston is being treated in hospital after suffering a 'serious injury' during a game against Alfreton Town.
The 26-year-old, who was named man of the match in Kidderminster's 2-1 FA Cup fourth round defeat to West Ham two weeks ago, was injured following a challenge in the 25th minute of their National League North match on Saturday.
Medics worked on him for 25 minutes on the pitch before the game was abandoned.
Preston was then taken to hospital by ambulance as he received more treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
X-rays later showed he has potentially suffered a double leg break.
On Sunday afternoon Preston posted a picture of him giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed.
And he added: "Just out from my first surgery, honestly blown away by the love shown, completely overwhelmed.
"Thank you to everyone who has messaged, it is massively appreciated, and not a single one has been overlooked!

"But I’ll be back stronger."
A statement from Harriers read: "Matt Preston is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
"Matt suffered a significant ankle injury, leading to the abandonment of the fixture.
"He received immediate care at Aggborough before being taken to hospital in Birmingham.
"All our thoughts at this time are with Matt. We'll provide fans with any further updates as and when they're available."
Meanwhile, West Ham man Declan Rice was quick to send his wishes to Preston as he praised the non-league player.
He tweeted: "Was incredible against us the other week, even better person off the pitch too.
"Wishing you a speedy recovery Matt."
Preston has previously played for Walsall, Swindon Town, Mansfield Town, Barnet and Solihull Moors.
He was the star of the show in Kidderminster's FA Cup clash with West Ham – which saw them lead 1-0 until stoppage time.
Moments after Preston was named man of the match by commentator Dion Dublin, the hosts then conceded to the Premier League outfit as Declan Rice equalised.
And Jarrod Bowen then won the game for the Hammers in added time at the end of extra time.
