JAMES TATE says Hey Gaman can finally be top man.
The gutsy four-year-old will bid to finally end his Group 2 duck in Saturday’s seven-furlong feature Unibet Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.
So far this season Hey Gaman has won at Listed and Group 3 level and twice been second in Group 2s, most recently when chasing home Sir Dancealot in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Now Tate believes he can finally get his reward.
The Newmarket trainer, pleased to see yesterday’s rain, said: "He is very well and has come out of Goodwood in great form.
"Apart from being second in that race he also ran well in The Minstrel Stakes at The Curragh.
"The horse who won that race, Romanised, has just won a Group 1 in France in great style.
"Soft ground will suit my lad and he has already won over the distance at Newbury. He has been second three times in Group 2s and also in a Group 1 so he really deserves to finally get one."
Sir Dancealot looks the main danger again and will bid to complete the same double he achieved 12 months ago by following up his Lennox victory in Saturday’s £100,000 contest.
