THIS was the incredible moment footballers dived for cover when a giant swarm of angry bees invaded their match.

The men can be seen lying face down on the grass and pulling their shirts over their heads as the insects stormed the Tanzanian Federation Cup game between FC Young Africans (Yanga) and Iringa United.

The bees attacked the players 53 minutes into Saturday's match at Uhuru Stadium in the capital city of Dares Salaam.

The moment was filmed by Azam, a local TVchannel and posted on their official Twitter account.

Only Yanga star Ali Mtoni Sonso was injured during the incident and had to seek medical attention from the team's physio before returning to the pitch.

After the players fled the pitch, the bees attacked their fans who can also be seen running for cover.

The game was halted for ten minutes, according to local media.

Meanwhile, the episode did not stop Mwinyi Zahera's men from winning the clash as they recorded a 4-0 emphatic win over their opponents.
