GRAEME SOUNESS has slammed Manchester United's £100million pursuit of Paul Pogba by claiming he is not worth that figure.

The Juventus midfielder is set to sign for United in a world-record nine figure fee after Pogba was given permission to complete his Old Trafford medical.

The move comes four years after United let Pogba leave for a measly £800,000.

But former Liverpool boss Souness has criticised the transfer fee United will pay for the 23-year-old.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, he said: "For £100m, you expect the finished article, a game-change.

"Paul Pogba's not that. He has the potential to be a top midfield player, but that still wouldn't put him in that price bracket.

"I've seen him live for Juventus in a European Cup final and semi-final against Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively and haven't seen him getting hold of a game by the scruff of the neck."

Souness, who won five league titles as a player at Liverpool, also criticised Chelsea's signing of N'Golo Kante by claiming he is no better than what they have already got.

"Nemanja Matic is a better passer and more of a goal threat than N'Golo Kante.

"They've not said, 'we're back and having a go' with their signings although that could change."
