RORY McILROY has slammed players who have joined the controversial LIV Series for fuelling "resentment".

The four-time major winner has been continually vocal in his support for the PGA and DP World Tour.

McIlroy, 33, did not criticise his fellow pros for signing up for the lucrative series for financial gain, but suggested they should NOT be able to continuing competing elsewhere.

Ian Poulter is one of three golfers who made the switch to LIV and had their bans from competing in this week's Scottish Open overturned.

Adrian Otaegui and Justin Harding, as well as Poulter, successfully appealed against their ban from the event, as well as two others co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour, plus fines of £100,000.

McIlroy though has blasted that those who have joined LIV cannot "have their cake and eat it" by also competing in PGA and DP World Tour events.

He told the BBC: "I think at this stage, if you've gone over to play on another tour then go and play on that tour.

"You've basically left all your peers behind to make more money, which is fine.

"But just stay over there. Don't try to come back and play over here again.

"The whole cake-and-eat-it type of attitude is what the resentment stems from within the PGA Tour and DP World Tour membership. That's the tricky part."

Billy Horschel also hit out at the LIV rebels who have "made their bed" by switching to the controversial Saudi-backed series.

The American said: "Those guys made their bed. They say that's what they want to do. So just leave us alone. Honestly.

"They keep talking about how the PGA Tour doesn't listen.

"I've been really frustrated by it because there's a lot of guys that are hypocrites, that aren't telling the truth and that are lying about some things.

"I just can't stand to sit here anymore and be diplomatic about it."
