MANCHESTER UNITED'S owners the Glazer family are reportedly open to selling a minority stake in the club.

Fans of the club, plus former players like Gary Neville, have been vocal in wanting them out.

Following the mounting pressure they are now considering selling a stake in United, according to Bloomberg.

It's claimed "preliminary discussions" have been held about possibly handing over some shares to a new investor.

But while talks have taken place, there is reported to be no guarantee that the Glazers will go ahead with selling a stake of their shares.

The family are also reportedly not ready to hand over full control of United, meaning they will still be the majority owners at Old Trafford.

It is thought there will be a long list of mega-rich big name investors keen on buying a stake in the Red Devils.

Elsewhere former director Michael Knighton has confirmed a plot to take over the club.

He has held talks with THREE billionaires about a potential bid, and begged Red Devils fan Sir Jim Ratcliffe to join the consortium after Ratcliffe failed in his bid to buy Chelsea earlier this year.

The club’s share prices jumped 12 per cent since Knighton’s initial announcement last week, and a further four per cent today, according to Bloomberg.

Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer are executive co-chairmen and directors at United.

Meanwhile Kevin Glazer, Bryan Glazer, Darcie Glazer Kassewitz and Edward Glazer are all on the board.

United fans protested against the family in the opening game of the season against Brighton, marching to Old Trafford with banners and flares.

Fresh protests are also expected for Monday night's clash with Liverpool.

Fans on social media threatened vowed to "#EmptyOldTrafford" for the match, leaving hordes of seats empty in an attempt to get their message across.

It was revealed yesterday that the Glazers have taken an estimated £1.1BN out of the club since originally taking over in 2005.
