Darts sensation Gerwyn Price has revealed he has been playing with a fractured hand ahead of his scheduled boxing match.
Price, 36, doubled his 2022 title tally on Saturday with a victory at Players Championship 7 following an 8-4 win in the final over Madars Razma. The Welshman’s displays, particularly his comeback in the semi-final, suggested that his hand injury was on the mend.
But the 2021 PDC World Darts Champion has now stunningly revealed it is fractured and requires plastering. And as well as disrupting his darts, it also leaves The Iceman’s boxing clash against Rhys Evans on April 9 in huge doubt.
Price took to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon to post a story of his hand in a splint.
He wrote: “So I’ve been playing with a fractured hand all along.”
Price added: “And you need to have it in a plaster for 4weeks. Sorry but I can’t do that just put me in a splint please.”
The World No.2 stunned fans when he announced he would be taking on former professional boxer Evans in the ring. Their bout was set to take place at the Valley Tavern in Fleur De Lys, Wales, in a bid to raise money for charity.
But fracturing his right hand will surely come as a huge blow, with the darts bad boy unable to let off any haymakers with his favoured fist. It remains to be seen whether the fight will be rescheduled with little over a week remaining.
Though Price is set to continue playing darts, as he added: "My hand is ok to play just means I now treat it differently." Price will face Joe Cullen in the quarter-finals at this week's Premier League Darts in Birmingham.
