I’M hoping it will be a Sam-tastic end to the Royal meeting.
I’ve got five nice rides on the last day, including on unbeaten colt SAMBURU (3.05) in the Jersey Stakes for the boss John Gosden.
He has done very well so far and we were actually close to going for the Britannia with him as he does his best work when coming off a good gallop.
He’s got plenty of speed though, so we opted for this seven-furlong Group 3 instead.
We see him as a progressive horse who is firmly on the up — and one who deserves a good crack at a race like this.
He battled well to win at York last time out and actually won it a shade comfortably in the end, so there should be more to come.
The two to beat look to be fellow Newmarket-trained runners Monaadah for Saeed Bin Suroor and Noble Truth from Charlie Appleby’s yard.
Noble Truth won a Listed race by six lengths last time while Monaadah has won twice in lesser races on the all-weather.
Both look nice prospects, but then so is Samburu.
We are hoping we have a nice one in the shape of ALZAHIR (2.30) in the Chesham.

We liked him a lot first time up at Yarmouth, where it turned into a two-furlong sprint and I just got nodded on the line.
He’s still a maiden and has only run once but we think he’s a very interesting horse and I’m looking forward to getting on him again.
I fully expect him to step forward from that first experience and we think he’s set to run a nice race.
Aidan O’Brien has the hot favourite in Alfred Munnings.

He made an impressive debut and probably deserves to be favourite, especially when you see Aidan has won this race four times in the last six years.
But it’s the Chesham and none of us know quite how good we all are at this point.
I would say most of the trainers and owners fancy there chances in the race.
Race of the day has to be the Platinum Jubilee Stakes.
What a line-up. To have 27 runners go to post in a Group 1 is something else.
It’s pretty much unheard, certainly over six furlongs. It will feel like the Royal Hunt Cup — only a lot quicker!
I’m on KINROSS (3.40) and, to be honest, we’d have more of a chance if the rain comes. I know most of you only want to see blue skies today — but my horse likes to put his wellies on.
I’m good friends with the owner, Marc Chan.
In fact, he’s staying in the same hotel as me so, if we win, maybe he will send some champagne to my room — or give me an upgrade to a suite!
It would be brilliant to ride another big winner for him, but I do think the ground will make a big difference and we’re probably a bit of an outsider.
I’m pleased to pick up a ride for another friend, Johnny Murtagh, with URBAN BEAT (5.00) in the Wokingham. He’s a bit of an outsider too and needs to bounce back to form, but Johnny’s horses are running well at the moment and this one’s got plenty of form in better company.
HONITON (5.35) is a nice grey. He’s taken a bit of time to learn about racing and is still a horse with improvement in him.
I hope he doesn’t get lost in a big field in the Golden Gates Stakes, as those 20-runner races round a bend can get very messy.
You don’t know where you’re going to land in that first furlong and you just have to improvise as you go along. Fingers crossed we get a good run and he gets to realise some of his potential.
I must say Inspiral was absolutely fantastic yesterday in the Coronation Stakes. She made my week! It was one of the strongest renewals of the Group 1 I can remember and the way she won was pretty sensational.
It was a great training performance by the boss, especially after the problems we had with her at home.
She had a setback and had to miss the 1,000 Guineas and has not been the easiest to get ready.
And I guess there are always question marks as to whether she still had the talent she showed as a two-year-old. Thankfully she has — if not even more — and it was great for the team.
It’s been a tough week but it’s good to get one board.
When she fell out of the stalls I thought ‘oh no, not again’.
But she really took off and for once I was able to enjoy the last 50 yards. Everybody has been a bit down this week — especially me — but hopefully this will put a smile on everyone’s faces again.
